Thanks to the 335 registered participants, all the volunteers from Casting For Recovery and the staff from Captain Kayak for making the Seventh Annual Jamaica Bay Kayak Fishing Tournament ”Yakstock” a tremendous success. Jamaica Bay is always a challenging fishery and this year, with the wind on Saturday, was no exception. Even with the postponement on Saturday many anglers stayed to successfully compete on Sunday. Over 250 were present on Sunday afternoon for the awards dinner and raffle. Thanks to all the sponsors who provided the raffle prizes. Please give those who support this tournament your support when making your purchases.
Remember to mark your 2011 calendars for the weekend after Mother’s Day for “Yakstock 2011” (May 12th-May 15th)

Congratulations to Robert Simeone of Morganville, NJ 3rd place winner in the Open Division with a Bass, fork length of 35". Hi Jerry,
This is Bob Simeone. I caught two bass one 34 and one 36" . I fish out of an Ocean prowler Big game angler. I made a right at the launch site and paddled to the bulk head. I located a drop off 27ft to 40ft with some markings around 30ft. It was wind against tide and the tide was incoming. I positioned my kayak on the ledge at 27ft and started chumming and chunking with bunker. I caught both bass on bunker heads. Too much fun!!! I paddled back against wind and tide around 11am. Torture! I had a great time and can't wait till next year! Bob Simeone |

FLY DIVISION WINNERS
|
Congratulations to Kurt Schwartz of Brooklyn, NY 1st place winner in the Fly Division with a Bass, fork length of 26".
Hey Jerry, Wow what a great time this years J-bay Tournament turned out to be. Even though Saturday was blown out I didn't hear one complaint or see one face without a smile on Sunday. You and your crew did an incredible job! I spent most of the morning fishing out of my Hobie Outback in the run just south of the Ruffle Bar. I had a slow start to the day but did manage a few fish in the morning including the fish I registered but as soon as the sun came out the action shut down. I was using my 9wt. rod with a full sinking line to make sure I got the fly down to the fish. We were all marking huge amounts of bait in there and that may have been part of the reason for the slow pick , just too many choices for the fish. I got most of my fish on a small green and white Half and Half. I usually use larger flies this time of year but I couldn't raise a fish on them this year. I just want to say thanks to everyone involved! I had a great time and I will see you all next year. Thank You, Kurt Schwarz |

Congratulations to David Abodeely of Queensburg, NY 2nd place winner in the Fly Division with a Bass, fork length of 24".
Hi Captain Jerry, I was fishing in a perception 16. I caught the fish in the channel near Ruffle Bar using a Dino's Clouser. I caught the fish early afternoon after a long stretch of catching nothing but blues. Unfortunately my brother, Chuck Mills lost a pig bass in the morning after a long battle. It rolled over on his leader at the kayak! Easily the fly category winner. Thank you once again for a great tourney in J-Bay. Already looking forward to next year. Thank You, David Abodeely |

Congratulations to Jose Colon of Irvington, NY 3rd place winner in the Fly Division with a Bass, fork length of 22 1/2".

WOMEN'S DIVISION WINNERS
|
Congratulations to Suzanne Collins of Remsenburg, NY 1st place winner in the Women’s Division with a Bass, fork length of 29".
Hi Captain, I had such fun fishing this year with my two friends George and Rich in the J-Bay tourney. I caught my winning fish at the far end of the pumpkin patch on a tube & worm and was down playing the size to my companions. It looked like a schoolie to me from my Hobie Revolution but it was a winner! Looking forward to fishing the east end bays this season and having lots of fun, fresh air and exercise. Regards, Suzanne Collins |

Congratulations to Lee Dascole of Lindenhurst, NY 2nd place winner in the Women’s Division with a Blue, fork length of 27 1/2".

Congratulations to Judy Seger of Allenburg, NJ 3rd place winner in the Women’s Division with a Bass, fork length of 24".
Hi Jerry, I fished from my Hobie Revo. Very shortly after the launch I picked up the biggest fish of the day. The fish was caught on Karl's Tubes & Worm. The rest of the day, was bluefish after bluefish! Had a great time fishing, (never fished there before). But I think I had just as good a time time volunteering and meeting so many great people with the same passion for kayak fishing!
